Hi y'all! I'm a transportation engineer and travel demand modeling consultant specializing in the development, estimation, and calibration of activity-based travel demand models. I help planning agencies understand how people organize their daily activities and make travel decisions, building tools to evaluate how transportation investments, land use changes, and policies may shape future travel.
Much of my work centers on ActivitySim and brings together travel behavior research, statistical modeling, and software development. I work across the modeling process, from preparing and integrating data to estimating behavioral choice models, implementing model components, and calibrating and validating results against observed travel patterns. My projects also include tools for land use processing and population synthesis, as well as bicycle route-choice modeling and its integration with destination and mode choice. Across these efforts, I focus on developing models that are behaviorally meaningful, computationally efficient, and useful for practical planning decisions.
My Ph.D. work at The University of Texas at Austin focused on combining machine learning with travel demand forecasting to improve transportation operations through adaptive traffic signal control, tolling, and other traffic management strategies. That research informs my approach to consulting, particularly my interest in the connections between individual travel decisions and transportation network performance. My broader goal remains the same: to support reliable, equitable, and efficient transportation systems through rigorous analysis and thoughtfully designed modeling tools.
Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, I also hold degrees in computer science and mathematical optimization from The University of Alabama. That interdisciplinary background shapes how I approach transportation problems, connecting the theory behind travel demand models with the software and analytical methods needed to put them into practice. Roll Tide Roll and Hook 'Em Horns!
